What public numbers do to people

Public numbers turn a profile into a scoreboard, and a scoreboard changes everything. You start measuring your worth against strangers. You edit what you say based on what scores. You watch a post underperform and quietly conclude that the thought behind it, or the person behind the thought, wasn’t good enough. Connection becomes competition, and nobody signed up for that.

The cruelest part is that the anxiety isn’t a side effect. Platforms display those numbers because comparison keeps you posting, checking, and coming back. Your insecurity is load-bearing.

What we built instead

Removing public numbers doesn’t mean removing feedback. It means putting feedback where it belongs: with you, not on a stage.

When someone resonates with your post, you’ll know. The 💜 count is visible to you alone: a private signal that what you shared touched someone, not a trophy for others to judge. One purple heart, one meaning.

Professionals don’t display popularity either. A therapist or coach on Conscious Interactions shows impact: the people growing with them, the communities they lead, their years of experience. What they’ve built, not how many watch them.

And communities describe their size in honest ranges (a small group, a growing community), never an exact figure. Enough to know if a space fits you. Nothing to rank it by.

What happens when the numbers disappear
