Why We Built a Social App That Wants You to Close It

Flor Hadar Cánchica Founder, Conscious Interactions 3 min read

We built a social app that wants you to close it.

That sounds like a contradiction, so let me say it plainly: Conscious Interactions is designed so you leave feeling better than when you arrived. Not so you stay longer. Not so you come back compulsively. So you leave: a little clearer, a little more connected, a little more yourself.

The problem we all recognize

You know the feeling. You open an app to see what your friends are up to, and forty minutes later you’re watching a stranger argue with another stranger about something you don’t care about. You close it feeling worse. You didn’t choose any of it. The feed chose for you.

People are hungry for meaningful connection online. That hunger is real, and it deserves better than what it’s been given. The platforms we use every day weren’t built to feed it. They were built to exploit it. Attention is the product, and every design decision follows from that: the infinite scroll, the disappearing stories, the notifications engineered to pull you back, the algorithm that buries the people you actually chose to follow under whatever keeps you watching.

None of this is an accident. It’s a business model. And we believe the business model is the problem.

The decision underneath everything

So we started from a different question. Not “how do we keep people on the screen?” but “what did this session give them?”

We call it value per session, and it’s the metric everything else answers to. From that one decision, the rest of the platform follows:

The algorithm rewards depth over virality. A post that starts a real conversation reaches further than a post that provokes a hundred hollow reactions. Controversy gets less reach here, not more.

Your declared intent beats behavioral tracking. You tell us what you’re here to grow (your pillars, your interests, your why) and that’s what shapes your feed. What you say always outweighs what a tracker infers about you.

And at the thirty-minute mark, the app itself gently invites you to close it. One quiet prompt, once per session, easy to dismiss. Because real life happens off the screen, and a platform that respects you says so.

What we built

Conscious Interactions is a social app for personal growth and intentional connection. It feels familiar the moment you open it (a feed, profiles, groups, live rooms) and different the moment you use it:

  • When you connect with someone, you see 100% of what they share. Always. Chronologically. Nobody can ever take your people away from you, and nobody pays for reach.
  • There are no public vanity metrics. No follower counts, no like totals, no scoreboard turning your life into a performance.
  • Content is organized around nine pillars of growth, from personal development to relationships, health, purpose, and spirituality, so you explore what matters to you instead of falling down rabbit holes.
  • Verified therapists, coaches, and mentors build real communities here, clearly identified, reaching people who genuinely want to grow.
  • And membership is free. Forever. Members are never the product.

Who this is for

Maybe you’ve outgrown the platforms you’re on but haven’t found a worthy replacement. Maybe you’re navigating a career change, a loss, a new chapter. Not in crisis, just human, and looking for people who take growth seriously. Maybe you’re simply tired of feeling worse every time you close an app.

This is the space we built for you.

Come grow. Connect with intention. And when you close the app (because you will, and we want you to) leave feeling better than when you came in.

Growing together through intentional connections.
